In 1947, John Cobb demonstrated a record-breaking speed of movement on the ground for that time: 634.39 kilometers per hour. However, even such high values did not shock anyone. The reason is that a man had first broken the sound barrier that year. On October 14, 1947, US Air Force Captain Charles Yeager reached the speed of 1,078 kilometers per hour on his Bell X-1 jet. Six months later, the speed record rose by one and a half times at once. After all, the most important thing is to overcome the barrier.
