On this day, a visitor entered Moon’s Lake House near Saratoga Springs, New York, and asked for French fries. George Crum, a native American chef, cut potatoes into stick, fried and delivered them. And in response, he received displeasure. “Oh, wait!” the furious chef thought. “It will be mouthwatering!” He shaved potatoes paper-thin and dried them so it could not be picked with a fork. Having put a fork and a knife aside, the customer calmly ate the “shavings” with fingers. And he licked his fingers! The visitor left and the chef Crum continued to make chips and fry potatoes. So the story of a very demanding customer and a quick-tempered chef became the story of how chips were created.
