In the course of the online press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency, Aysen Sergeyevich Nikolayev, Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) emphasized the key importance of mutual cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the degree of scientific education development in the region as a whole. “The development of such a vast territory as Yakutia is absolutely impossible without the use of modern science, without the use of its achievements. From this point of view, I think that cooperation between the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Russian Academy of Sciences should reach a high-quality level. The visit of the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences certainly served as the impetus for this. We discussed a whole range of science development issues. Of course, it is very important for us to develop the Sever scientific and educational center that was created specifically in Yakutia. The center includes not only Yakutian science and higher education, but also other regions: Chukotka, Magadan, Kamchatka, and Sakhalin, which will develop this center together with us. Not only will it develop science, but it will also use its achievements in the region in a multidisciplinary way. Yakutia has the opportunity to create a world-class center in a number of powerful areas. First of all, it concerns the issues related to the study of climate change, permafrost, behavior of materials and living organisms in cold conditions. Today, the cold can be used for the absolutely correct purposes to gain direct economic benefit. I am sure that the use of the achievements of our national science in the development of the study of vast region of Yakutia will improve the quality of life of the people of Yakutia and help develop our country as a whole.”
