Alexander Mikhaylovich Sergeev, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about the importance of reviving Tiksi, which requires recreating a scientific and technological center to further establish science in the region, as well as the competent allocation of energy at an online press conference at Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency. “There is another important aspect of scientific development in Yakutia – these are new materials that work in the conditions of cold and arctic stress. In Yakutia, this cold is both testing and exploitation of new materials carried out in natural conditions. This area is now well represented in M. K. Ammosov North-Eastern Federal University. The proposal to establish a center for testing new materials in Tiksi is particularly pleasing. We also have the Vostochny Cosmodrome that launches rockets. Under these circumstances, we need to train specialists and we have already started working on it. It’s great that Tiksi will now be developed from all sides – especially from the scientific side, which is also no less important,” Alexander Sergeev said.

Alexander Mikhailovich also told us about the cooperation with Japan in creating three modern wind turbines. “The wind turbines are unique, with about 300 kilowatts capacity each. Really strong winds, temperature fluctuations and cold – there are no wind turbines in such conditions anywhere else. Wind energy is transformed. This energy needs to be distributed and accumulated in the right way, so, this raises a completely different question: How can we make the most out of this clean wind energy? It is necessary to distribute energy properly, especially when the consumer does not need it,” the head of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.
