A French doctor and one of the founders of contemporary neuropathology and psychiatry, he demonstrated the existence of male hysteria, was the first to use hypnosis for treating hysterical disorders, founded the Department of Psychiatry of the University of Paris, and greatly influenced Sigmund Freud. And yet, most people know him as the inventor of Charcot Shower, which is used for treating neurological disorders, gout, joint pain, and is especially efficient against obesity and cellulite. Whether Jean Charcot thought of such an effect remains unknown.
