On this day, the Progress-M1-5 spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Space Complex towards the Mir orbital station. The Mission Control Center staff wittily nicknamed it “Gerasim” – the ship was to flood the overaged orbital station in the ocean. The Mir station was laid to rest in the non-navigable region of the Pacific Ocean. No monument is implied, but the station deserves it.
