In 1985 thousands of teachers from all over the USA competed for the right to fly into space on board spacecraft Challenger, give two televised lessons there and make a training film. Christa McAuliffe won the competition. However, it turned out that she actually competed for the right to die young with six other astronauts, as on January 28, 1986 Challenger exploded on the 73rd second of the flight at the altitude of 14 km. Later, it came to light that the engineers of the rocket producing company insisted on delaying the flight for the purpose of checking the safety systems. Thus Christa McAuliffe paid an exorbitant price for winning the contest and progress in space exploration.
