In 1938, the “people’s car” (“Volkswagen” in German) designed by Ferdinand Porsche acquired the look known to everyone today. The contours of its body were unusual for 1938 and so it was nicknamed “Beetle” by the New York Times. Over 21 million Beetles were made over its 60-plus-year history. Both figures are a world record. And what about the current date? Everything is correct: after January 19, 1978, all other thousands of “people’s beetles” were released in Mexico and Brazil. The reason is saving!
