В 1956 г. на побережье моря Дэвиса была открыта первая советская антарктическая научная станция «Мирный»

The Great Soviet Encylopedia includes several articles under name Mirny. The first one says that Mirny was one of the two sloops of Bellingshausen and Lasarev, who discovered Antarctica. The other article is about the research observatory in Antarctica named after the discoverers’ ship. The first Soviet Antarctic research station was opened on February 13, 1956 on the coast of Davis Sea. About 200 people in summer and 50 people in winter (in conditions of extremely low temperature and strong winds) conduct research and observations there in the fields of meteorology, glaciology, hydrology, biology, medicine and other sciences.
