On February 9, 1921, one dead shot reserved for Polish forester Warfolomei Shpakovich a place in history alongside Nero and Herostratus. The fact was that this shot killed the last bison of Belavezha Forest. Since that time, the bisons were living and bred only in Zoos. In late 1980s, there were so many of them that it became possible to release them into the wild. Now, Belavezha Forest is famous for its bisons again, and not only for the agreement signed by three leaders of former Soviet republics, who announced that the Soviet Union ceased to exist at Viskuli Residence.
