В 1861 г. открыт древний город Ангкор

French naturalist Henri Mouhot was traveling in the forests of Southeast Asia to collect samples of tropical plants. While wandering in the jungle at the northern end of Lake Tonle Sap, he came across the city of Angkor lost in the Cambodian jungle and its masterpiece – the Angkor Wat Temple built in the late 12th century. It had an unusual look, five towers, a gallery decorated with stone carving. We do not know what place Angkor Wat would have taken if they had again decided to count and rank the Wonders of the World, but it set its own records. The temple is still the largest religious building in the world and the only one with a silhouette placed on the national flag and coat of arms.
