There was time when disputes between Arrhenius and Dmitry Mendeleyev with regards to the nature of solutions in general and electrolytes in particular excited the scientific community. The modern science has conciliated the opponents, as the theories of two greatest chemists of their time are combined into one now. Nevertheless, the research and ideas of Arrhenius allowed for making serious progress in theory and practice of electrolysis, a very important technology today. Contemporaries valued Svante Arrhenius. He was one of the first Nobel Prize winners and laureate of many other prestigious awards. As far as awards are concerned, he outpaced Mendeleyev, yet gloria mundi is a capricious lady, and Russian chemist gained convincing revenge in the memory of future generations.
