Polish astronomer Johannes Hevelius is largely unknown to those who do not belong to professional community, which is unjust, as he founded the science of selenography (description of the Moon), suggested names for objects on its surface, composed the catalogue of stars and proposed several constellations with really funny names! Hunting Dogs were chasing the Great Bear, Sextans, the favorite astronomer’s tool, got burned in fire, while the constellation of Lynx comprised small stars which only a lynx can see, according to Hevelius.
