6 сентября 1522 года закончилось первое в мире кругосветное путешествие

On this day, something “resembling the ship’s wreck” entered the Guadalquivir mouth. After scrutiny, it became clear that it was the Victoria, one of Ferdinand Magellan’s five ships, which left Spain almost three years ago. Having lost the commander, four vessels, 246 crew members and a full day, the expedition under command of Juan Sebastian Elcano finally completed the world’s first circumnavigation and delivered to the customer what it was actually sent for in the first place – cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg. The aforementioned spices jumped from the ship’s hold onto the coat of arms granted to Elcano and settled down beneath the globe and the motto saying: “Primus circumdedisti me” (Latin for “You first encircled me”). And we still consider Magellan to be the first circumnavigator contrary to Elcano’s coat of arms.
