We think that the English are prim and aloof, but most probably we are wrong: it was in England that this lovely holiday originated. At the end of the 19th century, the English decided that the kiss, as a manifestation of love, should have its own holiday. A century later, the United Nations Organization agreed with them, and the holiday become international. But what does science have to do with it? Well, a lot. The science that studies fundamental physiological and psychological characteristics of human kissing is called philematology.
