Students of engineering have a saying: “Once you pass the structural resistance exam you can marry.” It would be fit to recall it today: a graduate of the Institute of the Corps of Transportation Engineers, Pyotr Sobko eventually became a professor in his alma mater and was the first in Russia to teach structural mechanics, that is, the theory of structural resistance and stability, as an independent discipline. So the professor’s birthday should be celebrated boldly by every ready-to-marry techie.
