Two German engineers, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach, built “a riding vehicle with a kerosene engine,” as it was described in this paper. Maybach decided to be the first to take a ride and the wooden forbearer of the iron horse went down the road at 12 kilometers per hour. Once he returned to his boss, the assistant said sarcastically: “This is not a vehicle, Gottlieb. It is a bone crusher. Congratulations.”
