28 ноября 1660 года учредили Лондонское Королевское общество

On this day, twelve English scholars convened at Gresham College after an astronomy lecture by Professor Christopher Wren and decided to form a society for experimental science. The society members were meeting weekly, observing the experiments, and discussing matters of science.

This is how The Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge was born: the most prestigious royal society that included all the most famous British scholars; the Royal Society that to this day acts as an academy of sciences in the United Kingdom; the Royal Society that is immortalized on the map of the world: back in the mid-18th century, its name was given to an archipelago in Polynesia with Tahiti as the major island.
