Among other curious people who observed it was a student of the University of Copenhagen Tycho Brahe. The eclipse occurred exactly on the date predicted and this fact impressed the young philosophy student so much that he decided to change his branch of study. And so he did and became one of the most famous astronomers in the history of mankind.
