The achievements of Carolus Magnus, i.e., Charles the Great, as a warrior and ruler are more than enough to make this date memorable. During the king’s rule, his country undertook 53 military campaigns with Charles participating personally in 27 of them. The territory of his kingdom increased twice having included almost all Christian Europe except England. Along with that, the great warrior and ruler released the Pope from the rule of Lombardy, and laid the groundwork for feudal system, which looked progressive enough taking into account the century he lived in. Now it is clear why people started calling rulers kings (Russian for king is korol).
